Running Stitch Embroidery Sampler

Running Stitch Embroidery Sampler

Posted 2013-09-28 by Mina Keenanfollow
Running stitch is the easiest, quickest decorative embroidery stitch. A basting stitch, it is good for achieving a juvenille or subtle look in your work.

Good for outlines, temporary and permanent contstruction.

It adds subtle colour to your projects.

Art and Craft Supplies

  • Embroidery thread
  • Cloth
  • Scissors

  • Method

    ...out...

Pass thread from from front to back.

    ...in...out...

Pass thread through to back and front again - the needle passing through the fabric in one step. Draw thread through. You have made a running stitch.

    ...repeat...

It will not take you long to master this. Soon you will be making multiple stitches in one step.

    ...carry on...

Pull fabric regularly after drawing thread through to avoid puckering.

Note: The cloth used in this project is fairly stiff. Its a calico slub with backing. The puckered look in this case is intentional.

    ...finished...

    Right side of work.

    ...just to see...

    Wrong side of work.
