Easy Tee Tote

Easy Tee Tote

Posted 2013-08-28 by Mina Keenanfollow

Upcycle an old tee shirt to make a fantastic bag. No sew - this project is very quick. A new tote - in ten minutes or less!

Art and Craft Supplies
  • Cotton Tee shirt
  • Scissors

  • Method

Find an old tee shirt, lay it out flat.

Cut off the sleeves. Cut through the entire thickness, getting rid of the joining seams.

Cut the neck into a curve through both thicknesses to make the bag opening larger and to even up the opening.

Cut the bottom edges into 'tassels' as shown, through both thicknesses keeping the top cuts fairly even across the width of the tee shirt.

Make your cuts fairly evenly spaced. Cut along the side seams to make the edge tassels two pieces.

Tug on the tassels to define them. You are making 'tassel pairs'. A tassel pair is a tassel from the front of the tee shirt and a tassel from the back of the teeshirt. Tassels are on top of each other and will form the bottom of the tote.

Starting at one side of the tee shirt, tie each tassel pair into a square knot. ( Tug on the knots as you are making them.

A square knot is two knots. Tie a knot right over left, then another knot left over right. (Or visa versa). This is a strong knot.

Your easy Tee Tote is finished!

    Think: shopping, beach....

...library books, knitting...the list goes on!

The squashes down to next to nothing.

    Have fun!
