Make a Bear and Mouse in MS Paint

This is the second of a series of nine easy to follow lessons where you can learn to draw in MS Paint. We will make a Bear head and turn some of them into mice!

Read through the tutorial first.

Open MS Paint. Go to Start/All Programs/Accessories/Paint.

Size your canvas. Go to Image/Attributes
A nice size to work with is 8 inches by 7 inches.
See how to do this here: MS Paint Tips for Tutorials

Select a color for your bear. Make elongated shapes for the head and ear. You can undo any mistake by pressing Ctrl Z or going to Edit/Undo in the Edit menu.

Choose another color and make an ellipse for the ear inset.

We need two ears, so choose the Select tool and transparent background. Now select the ear. A blue dotted box will appear around it. If you wave your cursor over the selection box, you will see the cursor change to four arrows. It looks like a cross with arrowheads. This means you can now move your selection by clicking and dragging.

Press Ctrl while click and dragging the selection. This will copy and move your ear. Release the click when you have decided where you want the copy to be. Remember you can press Ctrl Z to undo a mistake.

Release the click to place the ear.

Select the other ear and move it into position.

Choose the Ellipse tool and a new foreground color. Make the snout.

Choose black and make ellipses for the eyes and nose.

Choose the bucket (Fill with Color) tool. Select a color and click inside the Panda’s head.

Choose the line tool and a thickness for it. Make a short line for the mouth. Well done!

Choose the Select tool and transparent background function. Select your bear. Time to make a group of them!

Press Ctrl while click and dragging the selection. This will copy and move your Bear. Release the click when you have decided where you want the copy to be. Make as many new ears as you wish.

Give them a bit of individuality by choosing new colors and using the Bucket tool. Just select the Bucket tool, select a new foreground color and click inside the bits you want to change.

Time to make Mice! Choose the Line tool and a thickness for it. Make short lines for whiskers.

Ready to make more? Choose the Select tool and select all the Bears and Mice you made. Put your cursor over the lower right corner. You will see the cursor change to a diagonal double arrow. Hold the Shift key so everything will be in proportion and make the animals smaller.

Now press the Ctrl key and make a copy of the animals.

Give the new creatures some new colors.

Save your work. Go to File/Save As, give your work a name and save as a BMP, JPG or TIFF file so you can use them later.

Good job!

Have fun! :)

Hi Mina,
I would like to print your bears and lions onto sticker paper and use them for stickers for my students. Would it be possible for you to make your different coloured bears available for download?
