Beading your own necklace and earrings is a wonderful way to show your own creative flair.

Beading fun
Create your own beaded jewellery at home

To create my Butterfly Bead Necklace and Earrings, I have used glass beads with silver toned spacers and bone dyed feature butterfly beads for this set. But you can do whatever you like. The clasp is pressed metal.

Art and Craft Supplies

Tiger Tail thread
Beads of your choice
1 x clasp
2 x crimp beads
1 x pair ear hooks
2 x head pins
Jewellery pliers, cutters and round nose pliers
Fine sand paper (may be needed to file back rough edges)

Method

Necklace
1. Gather your beads, spacing beads, tiger tail, crimp beads, ear hooks, head pins and tools.

2. Thread one crimp bead on to the end of the tiger tail then put the clasp on.

Loop the thread around and through the crimp bead.

Clamp crimp bead with flat pliers.

3. Start beading and create your own interesting design.

Beading Progress
Keep threading beads on the tiger tail until you are happy with the length

4. Once you have a preferred length for your necklace, slip on the other crimp bead.

Put the other side of the clasp on the tiger tail.

Loop the tiger tail around and through the crimp bead.

It is best to close the necklace clasps and then pull the tiger tail tight. This will reduce gaps in the beading.

Clamp crimp bead with flat pliers.

5. Snip off the loose ends of the tiger tail and your necklace is finished.

Earrings
1. Gather your beads, spacing beads, ear hooks, head pins and tools.

2. Thread beads and spacers onto head pins.

3. Use round nose pliers to bend pin over to create a right angle.

Bend head pin with pliers
Bend head pin then loop back over round nose pliers and put ear hook on before twisting wire around itself

4. Position round nose pliers just above the bend and push the wire over and towards you.

Slip the ear hooks on before twisting the wire around itself to make a loop.

Loop wire, thread ear hooks and twist
Make sure no wire is poking out - file back if necessary with fine sanding paper

This part can be tricky and it is much easier to do with sterling silver then cheap quality metal findings. But it can be done.

Use flat nose pliers and round nose pliers to help you with the loop and twist. One pair to hold the loop and the other to help bend the wire around itself.

Tidy any wire ends that may stick out so they do not scratch. Use fine sand paper if needed.

5. Your earrings are finished and you have a matching set.
